A Group Intervention Program for Children of Divorce

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate a modified Children-of-Divorce Intervention Program (CODIP) and to analyze the factors that contributed to its effectiveness.

Methods: The CODIP was carried out with 17 participants in five different community welfare centers. Process recordings of the programs were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Results: Quantitative analysis reflected improvements in both the children¡¯s levels of interest and ability to follow rules in school, and it revealed that participants adapted well to the family transition that resulted from the divorce. Qualitative analysis yielded 12 factors within four categories of experience: group facilitation skills, foundation of positive change, perception of and coping with parental divorce, and coping skills.

Conclusions: The researchers discussed the importance of intervention programs for children of divorced parents and they and offered suggestions regarding effective facilitation skills in those programs.
